FTX-110 - DANCING WITH HORNS

JIM FOWELL - ABBOTS BROMLEY (Staffordshire)

Abbots Bromley is the home of this most ancient processional ritual, performed every year on Wakes Monday in September. Here are actuality recordings with the tunes for the dance played on melodeon by Douglas Fowell with triangle accompaniment by Brian Grimley, while the leader of the team, his father, Jim Fowell, gives his views on the origin of dance, the reindeer horns and describes the route with the sound of dancers. Also included is THE OLD ABBOTS BROMLEY TUNE noted together with the FLAXLEY AIR from the fiddling of Wheelwright Robinson over 100 years ago. Recordings in 1954 by Peter Kennedy
